Crisis Response Team.

 
The core service in every TIP Chapter is the Crisis Response Team. The Crisis Response Team is a group of well-trained citizens that are called by emergency personnel to provide support to emotionally traumatized citizens on a 24-hour 365-day a year basis. TIP responds to the emergency location within 20 minutes of the time called. The Need Addressed By a Crisis Response Team: Following a traumatic event, the people involved often feel helpless, confused, and in emotional shock. They are confronted with a situation for which they are totally unprepared. Often there is no one available in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy to guide the victims through these difficult hours. The TIP responder provides this necessary temporary support until the persons involved in the crisis are able to depend on family, friends, neighbors, and others.

Who is TIP?

They are citizens of all ages and occupations who have a deep desire to help others. Many TIP people have been through a traumatic experience themselves and realize the importance of immediate support from a caring and knowledgeable person.

What TIP Does?

  • Provide emotional support
  • Help arrange for shelter, food, clothing, and transportation
  • Notify family and friends
  • Serve as liaison between the victims and emergency and hospital  authorities
  • Help arrange follow-up services
  • Provide information and referral to appropriate agencies for ongoing  assistance

When TIP is Called?

TIP responders are always available. They are called by authorized police officers, firefighters, paramedics and hospital personnel to assist:  
  • Family members and friends following a natural or unexpected death.      
  • Disoriented or lonely older persons
  •  Persons involved in vehicle accidents
  •  Family members of a person who has completed suicide 
  • Persons who are distraught and seeking immediate support
  • Victims of fire
  •  Victims of crime including rape, assault, robbery, and burglary

Training Academy.

Training Academy

TIP Affiliates across the nation conduct Training Academies designed to equip local residents to be TIP responders.  The  Academy is a 55-hour course which residents interested in joining TIP must complete.  The Academy is taught by National Trainers, emergency responders, victims and local TIP people. It covers the following topics:     

  • Victimology

  • Emotional First Aid

  • Working Effectively in the Emergency System 

  • Helping family members after a death in the family

  • Safety and Street Smarts TIP Policies and Procedures

  • TIP Policies and Procedures  

The Training Academy utilizes a variety of teaching methods including lecture, audio-visual, role playing, guest speakers, demonstrations, mentoring, ride alongs, and hospital tour.
